Looking for the perfect day trip from Oslo? Well, look no further than Bærums Verk.
Bærums Verk is a charming village nestled in a long valley alongside the Lomma River, located in Bærum, Viken, Norway. The buildings straddle the river, connected by several bridges, and the village boasts a population of around 8,000 inhabitants.
Handelsstedet Bærums Verk is situated on the grounds of an old iron ore foundry dating back to the 1600s. Once the lifeblood of the village, the foundry has been transformed into a unique shopping center with approximately 50 artisan shops, restaurants, galleries, and workshops. The shopping center is renowned for its chic clothing and interior shops.
The original houses, once occupied by laborers, now house artisans, galleries, and eateries. This area, known as Verksgata, is open seven days a week year-round. Additionally, there's a museum featuring 18th-century foundry ovens amid the historic buildings.
Looking to walk off some of that delicious food? Take a stroll along the river amidst sculptures and wooden houses. The sculpture park showcases around 30 individual works by notable Norwegian artists, with a new sculpture added each year. You can enjoy the park at any time of day, any day of the year.
"We strongly believe that art in open air, placed in the everyday environment, helps create commitment, curiosity, and, not least, interest in the many outstanding sculptors that are represented." — Lisa & Carl Otto Løvenskiold
